Weekend quiz anyone?
In Cardiff, Labour activists have started distributing a petition to keep open various police stations across the capital. So far so good. More constructive than this too.
However, your weekend quiz question is this: why might South Wales Police be considering closing police stations?
a) they have had a series of poor grant settlements from the Labour-run Home Office; (Jenny Willott has more to say on this)
b) they didn’t do much better out of the Labour-led Assembly, which ignored special pleading from the chief constable Barbara Wilding;
c) when the chief constable wanted to raise council tax to fill the gap, the Assembly Minister (yes, Labour Minister) refused to let the Police Authority do so, threatening to cap them (see SWP Authority statement here);
d) all of the above.
