Action stations in the sunshine

Whilst most people head to the beach, Lib Dems across Wales and beyond are topping up their tans by delivering leaflets and knocking on doors. Normally you can spot the difference by the slightly ingrained ink stains on their hands and a limp from the miles walked. By night I’ve always found curry houses to be a natural habitat.

The sun poses a challenge for politicos too. So many people are out enjoying the sunshine, there aren’t people at home. This does raise the question, in weather like this would we be better off heading to the beach to talk to people, or would they tell us to sod off and leave their family time alone? I’m banking on the latter. However entertaining/horrific the prospect of a beach-off between candidates and party leaders may be, Kirsty has wisely decided to take Vince Cable to meet local business in Brecon instead.

Today people have a spring in their step. For the first time in 40 years a poll – and a credible one by an independent organisation has placed the Lib Dems ahead of Labour. Like all polls you take it with a pinch of salt but there is no doubt there are a few people with a spring in their step.

Added to that The Observer came out for the Lib Dems in its leader today. Lib Dem Voice has more on the significance of this, and the potential impact it may have elsewhere, like the Guardian.

It’s hard to work out what the implications are for Wales from this poll. Mike Smithson, the guru himself over at politicalbetting.com, suggests that the lesser mention of other parties was because people weren’t prompted. In Wales, of course, this leaves Plaid under represented. It also shows no surge of support towards the BNP, which is great news, though not unexpected, whatever the Welsh Labour party are saying.

EDIT The Euro candidates from the leading parties were on the Daily Politics. Valleys mam has her take on it, and it seems our man came out well I’m not surprised, back when I was one of his students Alan’s sessions used to heave with students.

Stephen tagged me in the canvassing experiences meme. I have many stories, none of the noteworthy ones are repeatable on here.. I’m not stupid.
