Labour Leadership contest takes off on-line

Rumour is that Rhodri Morgan will not be standing down as First Minister and Welsh Labour Leader until his birthday meaning that none of the prospective candidates to succeed him can declare officially or openly campaign until the autumn.

This means that we will have a summer with Welsh Labour in limbo and possibly mourning too following the European elections, waiting for a new direction. It also means that Rhodri’s successor will not take office until right at the end of the calendar year.

Despite this there appears to have been a new awakening amongst potential candidates. Carwyn Jones was in Caerphilly earlier this week talking about creating silicon valleys in South Wales. Now he has launched a blog and this time he promises that he will be writing it himself.

He may well be writing it himself, but he’s not posting himself. He’s in London today – a plenary day! – canvassing for leadership votes, so unless he’s mastered the art of mobile blogging…

Mmmmmm…. he is using a Gmail contact address and a mobile contact number. Wonder why?!?

What relevance does the Gmail address and mobile number have. Surely if he was using his AM address that would be worht commenting on, but the fact he has chosen gmail over hotmail or yahoo is probably because you need a blogger account.

I have texted the number but not yet had a reply.

Whoever steady eddie is, he seems to think that there are no computers in London or that Carwyn Jones cannot operate a Blackberry.

I am sure that both assumptions are wrong.

Also I think you will find that Jones was in London on WAG business, what with him being a Minister and all.

As for the Gmail Mystery, don’t all of those blogspots blogs need one?

Also maybe, just maybe he is using a mobile number as it is an effective way of being contacted by people?

I fail to see any conspiracy steady ed.

At least he is bothering to connect with people, I don’t see “One trick poverty pony” Lewis urging people to contact him. Or maybe he is keeping his head down while everyone thinks about expenses.

The Pyrex pirate of Penarth would not want us all reminded of his “Working class hero’s” steep and some might say greedy claims would he?

Boys, boys, let us not use this site to conduct the Labour leadership contest. It is only fair to point out that Huw Lewis has a very successful and well-established blog in which he not only invites comments but which also contains an extensive list of ways you can contact him.
