The Western Mail has more evidence this morning about Plaid Cymru Leader and Economy and Transport Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones aversion to effective scrutiny.
The Assembly’s cross-party Finance Committee are conducting an inquiry into the funding of Wales’ road infrastructure but are disappointed and concerned that Mr Jones has failed to provide important information that is crucial to their investigation.
They want to see a report by his ministerial advisory group which would shed light on his strategy and are considering using Freedom of Information legislation to compel him to provide the details.
If the words of the Plaid Cymru Chief Whip are anything to go by then Plaid seem to believe that answering a few questions is all that is necessary for accountability. He accuses the Committee of party politicking even though there is cross-party agreement that this documentation is needed to give clarity and enable proper scrutiny to take place.
It is the arrogance of a party who are enjoying the trappings of power just a little bit too much and appear to have forgotten the responsibilities that come with it.
