Change for infertility patients welcomed

For such a very long time women dealing with infertility problems have had to share hospital clinic and ward facilities with ante-natal and maternity units. Figures I obtained recently showed that a high proportion of hospitals in Wales use the same area for both sorts of consultation and treatment. I believe that to be insensitive and inappropriate and I took the opportunity to say so in the IVF debate in Plenary earlier in the month.

I am delighted to say that the Minister has written to say that she agrees with me. Her officials will be contacting Wales’ NHS Trust Executive Nurses to emphasise that women with infertility problems should be accommodated in a sensitive manner and not be placed alongside maternity patients.

Good news Eleanor. I was shocked when you brought the issue to the fore and am glad the Minister has responded effectively. Additional emotional trauma is so unnecessary in such circumstances.
