Only a few months ago Plaid Cymru expelled a student whose sole offence was to e-mail Ieuan Wyn Jones to complain about his party’s unprincipled abandonment of a key election pledge to oppose top-up fees. Now they have taken disciplinary action against her mother. Her crime? She was allegedly leaking stories to the media.
Once more Plaid Cymru have shown that internal discipline comes before the freedom of their members to express dissent with the party and its leadership. Their actions are not those of a natural democrats but of a beleaguered clique determined to maintain the party line at all cost. Even the Labour Party does not indulge in these sorts of witchhunt.
