Raw deal on Broadband

Wales is still getting a “raw deal” when it comes to accessing broadband internet services, a UK minister has admitted.

According to the BBC, the Creative Industries Minister, Sion Simon, believes that Wales currently gets a raw deal from commercially provided broadband. He accepts that broadband access remains a particular problem for parts of rural Wales.

The UK government says it is committed to universal broadband access by 2012. They also want to see all homes covered by DAB radio by 2015. That is of course beyond the next General Election and as such will be difficult to hold them to account on.

It is not clear what role the Welsh Government will have in delivering these objectives.
