It is an important summit. What Wales can do now is stop compensating farms for bovine tB and buy up land to plant trees!! This may seem odd. But if we are too reduce ou carbon emissions, a way of doing this is for broadleaf trees to take the carbon out of the atmosphere. Mick Bates has pointed out that there has been a redution in broadleaf planting. Just at the time we need more.
A brave government will do the right thing environmentally. If the Assembly owned land it would increase it’s power and value. 100,000 acres of tree planting would be a good target. This would help green jobs, the green economy, cut carbon, increase biomass and ecological diversity, harvest of wood for Wales in the future when fossil fuels become exhorbitant in price due to increased demand would be a legacy for the assembly.
