Taking credit

There is a fascinating letter in today’s Wales on Sunday from Plaid Cymru rent-a-quote, Chris Franks in which he alleges that the Conservatives want to scrap the free bus pass scheme in Wales. But fear not, Deputy First Minister and Plaid Cymru leader, Ieuan Wyn Jones has flown to the rescue (though not on Ieuan-air for once). Apparently, he has offered his full protection to the scheme even though it was never under threat.

How do we know it has never been under threat? Well because Ieuan Wyn Jones told us so when we debated it in Assembly Plenary.

Quite how this latest opportunism will go down with Plaid Cymru’s Labour coalition partners is not clear. The letter is a crude attempt to claim credit for a popular measure that was actually introduced by the first coalition government consisting of Labour and the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

No wonder Labour AMs are frustrated at Plaid Cymru attempts to take credit for all the things that are going right whilst they seek to distance themselves from anything that goes wrong. The nationalists are even seeking to claim the glory for schemes that came into being before they entered government.
