Helping low and middle income families

The end of the month is an unsettling time for many people and families in Wales.
The Labour government has forced millions of people to pay hundreds of pounds in income tax, keeping pensioners on the bread line and forcing people on benefits because working simply does not pay.

This cannot go on.

On Monday, the Liberal Democrats announced tax plans to help millions of people on low and middle incomes. Under our plans, people will not pay a penny on the first ten thousand pounds they earn. That would put £700 back in the pockets of the vast majority of tax payers, and take millions of people on low pay out of paying income tax altogether.

For a fairer society, we must radically rebalance the tax system however the simple rule of maths states that money must come from somewhere else to pay for this.

Our proposals ensure that the payment of taxes is linked proportionately to people’s ability to pay and we will see an end to tax avoidance and loopholes by the wealthy.

It is only right to ask those with the broadest shoulders to bear a little more of the burden so that millions of people on normal earnings get the break they desperately need.

We have balanced our books so that it is easier for families on low and middle income families to balance theirs.
