The Welsh Liberal Democrats yesterday launched our manifesto for the General Election where we set out four clear priorities of fair taxes, a fair chance for every child, a fair economy, and a fair deal by cleaning up politics.
We also promised to:
• Provide a £125 million green economy stimulus package to boost the Welsh economy
• Raise the state pension each year in line with earnings or inflation, whichever is higher.
• Ensure that every fully trained member of the armed forces will be paid at least the same as those on starting salaries in the emergency services.
• Reform the unfair Barnett formula so that Wales receives a fairer funding settlement.
We are taking the fight to the Labour party as they have let Wales down over the last 13 years.
This is a manifesto built on fairness, a concept the Labour party has forgotten and something which the Conservatives don’t understand.
Only the Welsh Liberal Democrats have the big ideas for fundamental changes in the way our country works to make it fair. We want fair taxes, a fair chance for every child, a fair economy and a fair deal by cleaning up politics.
We want to give pensioners a fair deal, ensure that those who risk their lives defending us are given a fair and decent pay and we’d change the unfair funding formula so that Wales receives a fair financial settlement.
The Welsh economy cannot be left to suffer and fall behind so that’s why we as a party are pledging to increase the budget for Wales by £125m through a green economy stimulus package. This would be the boost the Welsh economy needs to get it going once more.
Only we will shake up the tax system so that 200,000 people in Wales pay no income tax at all and only we will put £700 back in the pockets of hundreds and thousands of low and middle income workers and families, paid for by making the richest pay their fair share.
We know that times are difficult, for the national economy and for the family budget, but as a party, we would balance our books so that it’s easier for families and workers to balance theirs at the end of the month.
Five years ago, the Welsh Liberal Democrats won their first seat in the Welsh capital, taking it from the failing Labour party. Five years later, in Swansea, in Newport and in towns all across Wales, the Welsh Lib Dems are taking their fight for fairness to the Labour party.
