A letter to the Welsh Minister for Children

Dear Huw,

Please look at your own record when criticising the decision to take away the Child Trust Fund. Look at the Anti-Child record of this Labour Government. Look at the third of Welsh children who live in poverty, the 1,400 families living in temporary accommodation, and the 21,000 families living in overcrowded accommodation, look at the fact that British children are the unhappiest in Europe. Look at the fact that 65% of children in your own seat of Merthyr Tydfil that fail to get 5 good A*-C grades at GCSE. Look at the record levels of unemployment, and the record levels of debt that Labour saddled not only the country with, but our young people with. Wales has excessive amounts of young people not in education, employment or training and third generation long term benefit claimants.

The lack of aspiration, the lack of hope and the lack of prosperity within many communities in Wales will be the true legacy that Labour will be remembered for. The measures that the coalition Government take now, are the beginnings of a remedy to the 13 years of neglect, abandonment and destruction that Labour inflicted. Open your eyes Huw. Take a look. But I don’t think you’ll like what you’ve left behind.

Yours Sincerely,

Rachael
