Adam speaks

Adam Price is interviewed in this morning’s Western Mail about his decision not to stand for the Assembly in May. Apparently, he wants more experience of the outside world before being plunged into government.

What is most interesting though is his judgement on Carwyn Jones’ tenure as First Minister. He very much hits the nail on the head:

Mr Price said that although he liked Carwyn Jones personally, he was not impressed by his performance as First Minister so far.

“The best thing about being Prime Minister or First Minister is what you can do with the role – and everyone is accountable to you,” he said.

“Currently we’ve got a First Minister who got the job almost by default. I don’t see any evidence that he knows what he wants to do with it. Where is Wales going? What is the direction?

“For me, I would only want to do the job if I knew where I wanted Wales to go and how to get there.”

Is that a universal view within Plaid Cymru?

Good idea. I look forward to Adam Price working shifts in Corus – or, better still for a politician, on the front line in a DWP office.

Frankly Frank, Adam Price is a ‘cut above the rest’ and will find a very interesting job or series of jobs in the private sector. I have met graduates at the odd ‘do’ in Washington, DC fresh off “Adam’s program” (Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University).

For example, Mr. Price could get a Green Card and spend some time working in the USA – in say Washington, DC.

I am supposed to be meeting Mr. Price this month – in Washington, DC. I will be very happy to furnish him with tips and insights about living/working in Washington DC and its surrounding areas including Arlington (where I live) and further afield in Fairfax and Alexandria.

There are so many opportunities here to blow one’s mind like the massive think tanks in the Washington, DC metro area, and of course the West coast has plenty going for it.
