Matt Withers in this morning’s Wales on Sunday highlights the main selling point of Plaid Cymru’s Elin Jones as she makes a bid for her party’s leadership. She wants to put Independence back on the agenda of Welsh politics.
This appeal to the grassroots will suit the other parties down to the ground. After all why would anybody want to vote for a narrowly focussed nationalist party that is concentrating entirely on constitutional issues and has nothing constructive to say on the economy, education or health? It will certainly make for an interesting contest once it gets underway.
No doubt the Welsh language will feature heavily as well, leading us to question which potential leadership contender pulled out of a fringe meeting in last month’s Eisteddfod because one of the expert contributors would be speaking English? Apparently, the contender in question was concerned that an appearance on the Maes in a bilingual meeting would upset too many activists and undermine their campaign for leader.

Can somebody tell me if we get independence how do we replace the £15 billion we get from the English government now. When I went to a meeting the idea was we be like Ireland with help from the EU, thats not going to happen now.
Plaid said to me when I asked that they would open up Wales to employment, lower taxes, and they would get companies to come to the UK as India and China does now, what low wages .
Somebody will need to explain to use about the NHS Police Ambulance and how it’s going to be paid, even if you go forth to get employment into Wales it’s going to takes many many years.
IN LLanelli Plaid is seen as the party of the Welsh speakers.
